Emily Rose
Yoga Teacher, RYT-200
Tell us, when did mind-body first bend you to its will?
I did yoga DVDs often while I was a teenager and started doing yoga in a studio shortly after I got married (almost still a teenager). I enjoyed the fluidity and the workout without feeling like I was going to a gym and “working out.” I stuck with heated power yoga for about 5 minutes until I was crying in an exhausted, sweaty savasana and not because I was in physical pain. I decided I need to explore this yoga thang a little more.
Besides your obvious coolness, what makes you qualified to teach?
I have completed the in-depth studies program at Blue Anjou, which polished my aura with coolness, and am now a RYT-200.
What other things are you qualified to do (besides train dolphins ... we're all qualified to do that)?
I am a Sign Language Interpreter, working with Deaf individuals in all types of situations. Really--- ER, physical therapy, drug rehabilitation, mental health meetings, college/university classes--- all kinds of stuff. I’m also a full time student, working towards a degree in nutrition so that soon I will be qualified to tell you why vegetarians are the bomb.
What can we expect to see, hear and do in your classes?
I am still developing my teaching style, but I know that my one goal is to provide a safe place. Not on the mat in my class, but teaching people how to be comfortable in their own bodies and to trust their own intuition. You are your own safe place.
What pose/move do you dig the most and why?
So many to choose from!! Vrksasana and Utthita Hasta Padangustasana (tree and hand to big toe) are definitely high priority for me. I love side plank, too. Really, anything that challenges my balance and strength at the same time is pretty rad.
If you could push a button and remove a pose/move from history, which one and why?
I was terrified of pigeon pose for a while because of the way a teacher handled me in it (NOT at Blue!), but after a lot of practicing I found a way to express it in my own safe way and now me and the pigeon are friends.
Can I just remove the rope wall from any class I go to? (ed. No. The rope wall is bad@ss!)
Like, what's your sign man?
Virgo. And I’m such a Virgo.
What are 3 things that make you smile real big and cheesy?
- My two Littles [sisters] smiling really big and cheesy. It usually involves a drum for Abby and something artsy and weird for Mearl. And/or marching band.
- Nailing a gnarly turn or dodging trees on a dirt bike. Or just picking up the dang thing after dropping it without assistance and without hurting myself. Powerful moments.
- Food, dude. I friggin’ love trying new food.
What is your favorite quote when you're in need of a little inspiration?
“If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!” – Dolly Parton
If you could do anything to change the world, what would it be?
Teach yoga and adopt all the orphans in the world, but I think I’ll stick with yoga for now.
Any other interesting information you would like to share with the nice people reading this here Bio?
I’m probably the most neurotic laid back person you’ll ever meet. However that works.
