Mark Williams

Yoga Teacher (RYT-200)

Tell us, when did mind-body first bend you to it's will?

I started off with an old (cough) Rodney Yi VHS tape (ed. me too, but it was a DVD) and I liked that a bit. Then found a couple of Kabala yoga DVDs at half priced books got used to the routines and decided I was gunna’ do some yoga. Went to a couple of "Y" classes. tried doing some of them newfangled heated yoga sweat lodge places then saw there was a place called the Blue Anjou opening up here in Lewisville. It was no coincidence traffic was bad and couldn’t make the sweaty class so I googled and saw Blue had opened up and got into a regular practice in 2006 or 2007

Besides your obvious coolness, what makes you qualified to teach?

  • Because I know that Patanjali is as cool as Steve McQueen.
  • Being a part of this tribe that is the family I choose to have in my life.
  • I am.

What other things are you qualified to do (besides train dolphins ... we're all qualified to do that)?

I worked in psychology for over ten years with MH patients as well as addiction. I then moved into doing more art or creative stuff for a living. I Dad, I paint, I doodle, I play guitar, drums, sing, shave, read lots of stuff, in recovery, sponsor, exercise, cook, clean, I like dancing, generally being a silly person, I love music in many different colors and if you ask me I will prolly' make you a mix tape or cd or whatever with great happiness. I like to smile and am known to skip and bounce in a tigger sort of way.

What can we expect to see, hear and do in your classes?

I hope that we will see each other!!!  Oh! Okay, okay, yeah remember when you were little and it was time to play outside and most of the kids were just playing and feeling good just being themselves? Even when some weird thing happened and kids got upset about not enough crayons to go around but that would be fine in a second and everybody would continue to play without any grudge and they just got along because it was just so fantastic to be out playing? Everyone being themselves that that piddly stuff didn't matter cause playing like this is the Sh*t? That's what I’m shooting for in my classes. Oh yeah you will see your Drishti. I hope that we don't hear too much flatulence because that's just funny. I think we will hear my knees pop. See cool stuff in our heads when we close our eyes. Dancing to some really good tunes.

What pose/move do you dig the most and why?

I like a couple of poses Sasangasana (Rabbit) because I like rabbits and it really flexes the spine. Salabhasana (Locust) rules on my breathing and just puts my guts in the right place, and bridge Setu Bandhasana it is just awesome.  And everyone loves savasana

If you could push a button and remove a pose/move from history, which one and why?

I no like pigeon very much but I do it anyhow.

Like, what's your sign man?

Pyrex.  Western - Pisces, Vedic - Capricorn, Chinese - Water Ox (which is kind of like a big, fat fish with hoofs)

What are 3 things that make you smile real big and cheesy? (ed. no fart jokes)

My kiddos. When my mom or dad laugh. When animals stop near me and we talk a bit. Gekkos. Hugs. Tommy James and the shondells. ABC by the Jackson5. OHMing to newborns. The thought of a baby seal with a unicorn horn and Pegasus wings. HUGS real ones. Wind relieving pose (got out of that with no fart joke!). That was more than three ...  (ed. do we need to add a "counting" chapter to our Teacher Training?  LoL)

What is your favorite quote when you're in need of a little inspiration?

There are a few:

  • "Every human is an artist. The dream of your life is to make beautiful art.” - Don Miguel Ruiz
  • "It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble, how hopeless the outlook how muddled the tangle, how great the mistake. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it." - Emmet Fox
  • "When your hobbies get in the way of your work - that's OK; but when your hobbies get in the way of themselves... well." - Steve Martin
  • "A drop of action is worth more than an ocean of doctrine" - I don’t know who said that but it rawks

If you could do anything to change the world, what would it be?

More Love and Acceptance on tap.

Any other interesting information you would like to share with the nice people reading this here Bio?

I think I have covered a lot of ground here with run on sentences ... I hope to see you around Blue!!! NAMASTE!
